Even before Herman was born, his father had bought a piano and decided that his son should play. Coming ’from a home with a piano’ - and especially in the Jewish immigrant milieu - equaled a desire for social ascent that was noticed.
In September 1907, Isak and Manja arrived from Blaszki, in Poland to Copenhagen. Due to the piano Herman Koppel became one of the finest pianists of his generation and an internationally recognized composer.
