Together with Jewish Culture in Copenhagen, the Austrian Embassy Copenhagen is pleased to invite you to “Austria Day” on 15 March 2022. We are hosting an interesting lecture and a beautiful concert, which gives you an outstanding opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of the Jewish population in Austria.
The presentation thematises Austrians who were forced to leave their country after German troops had invaded Austria in March 1938. Jewish, non Jewish or so called Jewish by definition of the Nazis had to start a new life all over the world. Their stories will be illustrated in this talk.
Dr. Hazel Rosenstrauch was born in England because her parents had to emigrate after 1938.
She is a cultural scientist, author and journalist. Her work focuses on Jewish-German relations, relations between science and the public and cultural changes around 1800.
Kantor Shmuel Barzilai – tenor concert
The presentation is followed by a concert by Mag. Shmuel Barzilai. The head cantor of the Jewish Community of Vienna, born in Jerusalem, has performed in some of the most important concert halls in the world (i.e. Wiener Konzerthaus, Jerusalem Theater, National Gallery Victoria in Melbourne, opera houses in Belgrade, Bratislava and Kosice).
He performed with renowned philharmonic and symphony orchestras in Europe, Israel and the USA, world-wide solo appearances also shaped his international career. His repertoire includes liturgical cantoral music, Jewish soul music, Hasidic and Klezmer music, Israeli songs as well as operas and classical vocal literature.
